The process
How Biohazard Cleanup Works
Nobody plans for this, so nobody knows the steps. This page is the whole process laid out, the same steps whatever the situation, so you can see there is nothing complicated ahead of you and nothing you need to prepare in advance.
You call once. We match you with a verified local crew, the crew assesses the scene and gives you a written quote, and only when you approve it does the work start. Most homes are finished within a day. Insurance paperwork comes with the job, and most crews can reach you the same day.
Step 1: The call
You call and describe, in plain words, what has happened and where the property is. You will not be asked for technical language, and you do not need documents in hand. If the situation involves a crime scene, the first question is whether police have released the property; cleaning cannot legally start before that, and we will tell you how that release usually works. The call carries no obligation: if a crew is not needed, you will be told so.
Step 2: A local crew is matched to you
We connect you with a trained crew near the property, checked for training, insurance and, in the states that register this trade, against the state registration. The crew lead contacts you, agrees an arrival time, and explains what they will do on arrival. In most metro areas this is the same day; in rural areas it can be the next day, and you will be told honestly which applies.
Step 3: Assessment and a written quote
On site, the crew maps the full extent of the affected area, including inside materials the eye cannot check from the surface. Then you receive the price in writing, covering removal, disinfection, testing and waste disposal. The final price is confirmed by the contractor after seeing the job, in a written quote before work starts. Nothing begins until you say yes.
Step 4: The cleanup
The crew seals the work area, removes affected material as regulated waste, cleans and disinfects the remaining surfaces, treats odor at its source and tests the disinfected surfaces. Personal belongings are handled with care and checked with you before anything personal is removed. You do not need to watch, or even be in the building.
Step 5: Handover and the paperwork
When testing passes, the space is handed back safe to use. You receive the invoice and the waste transport manifests. If you are claiming on insurance, this is the file the adjuster needs; the insurance coverage page walks through the claim, and after a crime, victim compensation may repay what insurance does not.
The questions behind the process
Families usually ask the same four things. How much: typical ranges are published on the cost page, and the written quote settles your case. How long: a single room is hours; a large unattended death or hoarding property is days, and the crew lead gives you a realistic window after assessment. How private: completely; crews use unmarked vehicles and do not discuss jobs. And who to trust: the choosing a company page lists the checks, including the ones we run.
Questions families ask us
Do I need to be at the property during the cleanup?
No. Most families are not present, and many prefer it that way. You can hand over a key or arrange access with a neighbor, a landlord or the crew lead directly, and you will be called when the work is finished.
What should I do before the crew arrives?
Very little. Take people and pets out of the affected rooms, and set aside anything in those rooms you know you want kept. Do not start cleaning yourself, and do not run fans or heating that spread air through the area.
What paperwork do I receive?
A written quote before work, an itemised invoice after, and the waste transport manifests for anything removed as regulated waste. Insurance and victim compensation claims run on exactly these documents.
What if the property is a rental or part of an estate?
Landlords and executors arrange cleanups the same way families do. The crew works with whoever holds the keys and the legal right to authorise work on the property, and invoices can be issued to the estate or the property owner as needed.
